Stephen McAvoy is a native of Southern California. After serving in various financial management positions for 38 years both in public accounting and corporate Los Angeles specializing in the financial services industry, he retired in 2005 and has focused his efforts as a community volunteer. At various times during his business career he served as an auditor with Ernst & Young and as controller/comptroller of First Interstate Bank of California, First Interstate Bancorp and City National Bank. He has extensive experience as a member of non-profit Boards of Directors including three start-up boards (Downtown Women’s Center in existence for 31 years, Hollywood Community Housing Corporation in existence for 20 years and Valor Academy Charter School). Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of CD Tech. Mr. McAvoy’s interests have primarily focused on urban affordable housing and economic development issues all of which interact with education. He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
