The Los Angeles Regional Workforce Preparation and Economic Development Act (LA RWPEDA) Collaborative is one of six regional collaboratives supported by the State of California to develop a comprehensive workforce development system that will integrate the job seeker, employer and education and training communities. The Collaborative is implementing a three-year pilot project (1998-2001) under the auspices of the Regional Workforce Preparation and Economic Development Act to strengthen existing partnerships in economic development, employment and training services, welfare reform and school reform. The goal is to improve the content and delivery of education and training services by aligning these programs with the needs of existing and emerging industries. To accomplish this goal, the Collaborative is developing two products:
An Internet search engine that will connect different information systems, so that job seekers, employers, education/training providers and others can easily access information about jobs, career ladders, and education and training resources.
A "Skills Gap" profile of key occupations in five industries (metalwork, food processing, apparel, health services, and high tech) so that identified gaps in skill sets and education curricula can be closed through industry-led efforts.
