Workforce Programs

The CD Techlink goal is to provide comprehensive programs and services to the community, creating productive, self-sufficient, healthy families.

Youth Employment: 

  • CD Techlink Center has hosted 10 youth from the Archdiocesan, each student is given a total of 200 work hours were the student benefits, gaining new work skills to help them in future career opportunities.

Success Story: 

  • Intern Jose Rivera referred by Sherry Miligan (AYE) to work at the Techlink center was currently hired full time after completing his intern hours by the Dunbar Economic development corporation, he is program coordinator for main street and community safety initiative, proven success that here at Techlink you gain valuable computer skills that can open up doors and opportunities for youth and young adults possibly creating future leaders in the community. 

Computer Training:

  • Open Access is held Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 6:00 PM Technology center is used by the community in and around the S central and Vernon area. Currently there are students from Washington Carvart Middle school and Jefferson High school using the Center, students use the center to do there Homework write reports and do Internet research.   
  • LAUSD, Jefferson High Adult schools is giving computer class at CD Techlink from 9:00 AM to 12:00PM Mon Tuesday, Wednesday. Core study is Microsoft Word Excel and power point
  • Dunbar EDC, Noemi Soto is currently having GIS Mapping curriculum crash course for Participants that are enrolled in the Ralph bounce leadership academy. This class is held every Thursday at Techlink from 4:00PM to 6:00PM the duration of the class is six weeks.
  • Washington Carvart Middle school is having classes at the Techlink center every Monday Wednesday and Friday from 3:00PM to 6:00PM the curriculum is teaching youth ages (12 through 15) multimedia and graphic design and in the future teach the youth web design.  
  • The Canaan Worksource center: addressing needs and strengthening opportunities for success.

WIA Pilot Program run by the Canaan Housing Corporation (the community and economic development arm of Second Baptist Church), the Canaan Worksource Center is committed to assisting the neighborhood with its job readiness and job placement needs.

Objectives:

1) To assist the unemployed and underemployed in finding employment that will allow them to become self-reliant.

2) To provide businesses with qualified and ready to work applicants.

The workshops that we provide offer a chance for our program participants to

  • create a resume
  • thoroughly define their employment goals
  • find employment
  • gain computer skills
Merchant training is held on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 6:30PM to 8:30 PM however this class will start again in the month of January.
