On Saturday, December, 15 2012, CDTech hosted a Parent Summit focusing on residents in the 90011 zip code, otherwise known as Vernon/Central. CDTech outreached to families involved with ParentLink and Youth Lead, as well as local apartment complexes and other community groups.
The summit engaged residents in community dialogue around hope, transformation, and change in South Los Angeles. Parents had the opportunity to break out into groups, discuss their community-building, and recommend issues they would like to be addressed within the next year.
After sharing their concerns and experience, residents learned about upcoming civic engagement projects, parent engagement opportunities, and ways to become involved in future Public Allies’ team service projects. The next summit will coincide with Martin Luther King Day, 2013.
